Marsden Metals and Recycling are a local, family-owned scrap metal recycling company. Founded by Gordon Abernethy who has more than 50 years’ experience in the scrap metal recycling industry. Gordon’s whakapapa is Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Kahu and Ngāti Rua and we are very proud that most of our team whakapapa from Northland iwi. Janine Abernethy joined the MMG team in the early 2000’s and now the next generation of the Abernethy family have joined the MMG team as it grows from strength to strength.
Janine joined the business after a successful career in Education, Advocacy and Health Administration and has led the company through its recent growth.
Andy W is Marsden Metals Group most experienced team member having been with MMG for over 10 years. Andy has broad expertise across all areas of Metals Recycling, Processing, Health and Safety and team leadership. Andy is our regional leader and oversees export operations.
Nikki joined MMG from a successful background in property management, bringing strong organisational skills and valuable local knowledge of Waipapa, Kerikeri and the wider region. She plays a key role in keeping our busy Waipapa yard running smoothly, particularly with our large commercial clients. Known for her attention to detail and friendly approach.
Keryn joined MMG after returning from Australia, bringing with her a breadth of experience in customer service and sales. With a broad skillset across accounts, logistics, and dispatch, she plays an integral role in keeping operations running smoothly and supporting the wider MMG team.
Ken is a long standing and highly valued team member, bringing specialist expertise in mechanical work, yard leadership, and high-value scrap metal processing. He takes great pride in maintaining the Dargaville yard to an exceptional standard and is always ready to lend a hand when you’re dropping off scrap metal.
Ryan joined MMG in 2025 as the Waipapa yard expanded in both volume and capacity. He brings extensive local experience across contracting, farming, heavy vehicles, construction, and mechanical work. A highly experienced leader, Ryan is well suited to the fast-paced environment of the Waipapa yard.
Piper first joined MMG through the traineeship programme in 2023 and has been part of the team ever since, gaining experience across all areas of the yard. While still young, she brings skills well beyond her years, with a natural ability in operating heavy industrial equipment, scrap metal processing, and leadership. Piper is a valued team member with a very bright future at MMG, always willing to lend a hand—no job is too big or too small.
The MMG team enjoy the occasional team breakfast or shared lunch for fun. We also attend get-togethers outside of work to do good in our local community.
