Marsden Metals and Recycling are a local, family-owned scrap metal recycling company. Founded by Gordon Abernethy who has more than 50 years’ experience in the scrap metal recycling industry. Gordon’s whakapapa is Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Kahu and Ngāti Rua and we are very proud that most of our team whakapapa from Northland iwi. Janine Abernethy joined the MMG team in the early 2000’s and now the next generation of the Abernethy family have joined the MMG team as it grows from strength to strength.

Our people are the most valuable resource the MMG team have, and we take care of them like family.

Gordon is well known in the New Zealand Metals Recycling Industry having held senior roles in almost every area of the business. His experience and knowledge of scrap metal, demolition, plant decommissioning and scrap metal processing is second to none.

Bruce has many years of experience in large demolition and deconstruction projects in addition to waste transport logistics and waste management.

Braxton joined our team in 2024, bringing her previous experience as a Senior Account Manager to the MMG Team. Braxton has adapted well to the fast-paced environment of the Scrap Metal Industry and is the welcoming voice that greets you when you call into our Dargaville yard.

Andy Dean

Yard Manager - Waipapa

Andy D joined MMG in 2024, returning to his first passion of Scrap Metal Recycling after 15 years working in senior Accounting and Finance roles in Australia.  Andy leads our fast growing Waipapa yard.

Andy Welsh

Yard Manager - Ruakaka

Andy W is Marsden Metals Group most experienced team member having been with MMG for over 10 years. Andy has broad expertise across all areas of Metals Recycling, Processing, Health and Safety and team leadership. In addition to managing the Ruakaka yard, Andy leads our export operations and cadetship programme.
