Yard Labourer – Ruakaka and Waipapa

We are an award winning Waste Management and Scrap Steel Recycling business and due to continuous growth we are looking for yard labourer’s to join our growing teams in Waipapa, Ruakaka and Dargaville.

We specialise in metals recovery and waste solutions for the industrial, farming and construction sectors.  With almost 20 years in operation we are in a great position to take advantage of new and emerging waste and recycling initiatives.

We have three operational facilities in: Ruakaka, Waipapa and Dargaville.  Northland is surrounded by stunning coastline that boasts excellent fishing opportunities, beautiful white sandy beaches for swimming, surfing, and family fun.  It is a friendly welcoming community supported by established facilities for education, health, shopping and we are one of the fastest growing regional locations in New Zealand.

About you

We are looking for hard-working, reliable and safety minded individuals to join our team as a Labourer. As a Labourer you will be responsible for helping customers drop-off their scrap metal, visually examining and sorting out targeted materials and accurately placing them in the correct area/bin according to material type; yard clean up and maintenance; and other general physical labour duties to ensure the highest quality of scrap material is processed and shipped to our customers in a safe, effective manner. This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and MMG strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

What you will do

  • Identify recyclable and non-recyclable material from incoming scrap and place it into the proper area/bin for further recycling or disposal
  • Help site visitors unload their scrap metal
  • Process metal as required including driving forklift, gas cutting and manual breaking down of items
  • Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
  • Perform daily inspections on equipment reporting any defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
  • General labour duties that may include but not limited to sweeping, shoveling and general clean-up of any area and/or equipment throughout the yard.
  • Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned.
  • Comply with all applicable Recycling safety, health, & environmental rules, regulations, policies, & procedures.
  • Much of what we do is our core business waste and metals recovery however because we are well known across New Zealand for managing large projects we are from time to time called upon for project work which can take us out on location to other areas of New Zealand e.g. demolition of large industrial equipment/sites, decommissioning of ships/barges, railway work etc so your role will be varied.

What you will bring

High School NCEA level 1, 2 or equivalent work experience.
1 year previous general labour in the scrap metal or construction industries preferred
Ability to use a smart phone application on either a phone or an ipad
Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form
Ability to learn new tasks as assigned and initiative to develop any gaps in these skills.
